The summer was great, and our children are gearing up for school this week. As you know the RFC has two major events and only two, and these two events provide the budget our Middle School Sports and capital improvements around the sports program. The first event is the Carnival, and that is on October 13th. The second event is the Beefsteak Dinner, and that is on February 1st. Please mark these dates on your calendars. We need your help to make the days a success. For the carnival, we need at least 30 of you to help man the booths at various times. Also, we need your donations for raffle prizes. Then we will need you to buy and sell raffle tickets. Lastly, we'll need you to attend with your children! So, at this point, please let me know (A) if you can donate something for the raffle; and (B) if you can work that day. I'll be back to you in a couple of weeks to let you know how the donations are going, and will give instructions on how to sell raffle tickets. I have been collecting your responses and we will start putting together a firm schedule the week before the Carnival. Hopefully more of you know your children's activity schedules and can commit to helping working the day of the Carnival. For those of us with older children, you can work side-by-side with them, they'll love it, and you'll have some fun too. We still need a bunch of volunteers to make the day a success again. Second - we need more donations of things to raffle off. Some suggestions - tickets to sporting events, gift certificates to dinners or stores in town, wine, etc... Third - in partnership with the CYO we have agreed to get new backboards and a new scoreboard for the school gym. The CYO is providing some of the funding ($4000), and the RFC is covering the balance of the cost. Your generosity in the past at the carnivals and the beefsteak dinner has enabled us to make this donation. Fourth - we need two of you to volunteer own the scoreboard / backboard project. The two of you will find and select the backboards and scoreboards, arrange the purchase, and coordinate the installation. Hopefully we can get the volunteers in place before back-to-school night, so this will be one less thing we are asking of you guys that night. Message-ID: Okay Gents - If you were at the back to school nights you heard Ed and/or me give you an update on the RFC. Here are the main points we made: (1) We are going to have a Carnival Planning Meeting on Oct 1st in the Grammar School Cafeteria at 7pm (2) The Carnival is coming up soon - Saturday - Oct 13th. We need two things from you NOW - a commitment to work the event. For those of us with older children, sign up to work with them. You both will love the experience. We have 1/3 of the needed volunteers. - donations of items to include in the raffle (3) For the Carnival, we will start selling Raffle tickets when we have stuff to announce as prizes... What do you say - we'll starting selling tickets next week? (4) We still need 2 people to help Mrs. Logigian in getting new scoreboards and new backboards (for the side walls - not to replace the current ones) for the gym. The CYO is funding $4000 toward this expense, and our past donations are funding the balance. The two of you who will help in this can personally direct how our funds are spent - and then can claim rights to take the first shots at the new backboards! To make this really easy for you, you can copy the following for your replies to this note - you can use more than one of these!: (A) Count me in for working the carnival (B) Count me and my child {replace with name} in for working the carnival (C) I would love to donate the following to the carnival raffle - - gift certificate for dinner at {fill in restaurant name, e.g., Morgan's, Ruby's, Wellington's} - gift certificate for stuff at {fill in store name, e.g., Modell's, Grapes, Ralph's} - a case of wine I happen to have handy to donate - tickets to the great event {e.g., Giants playoff tickets, Mets World Series Tickets - I do dream big!} I have saved up the answers from my previous e-mails, and I'll start sending around preliminary scheduling after the Oct 1st meeting.
