From Tom at TheSteinthals.com Thu Sep 10 05:41:18 2009 From: Tom at TheSteinthals.com (Tom Steinthal) Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2009 05:41:18 -0400 Subject: RFC - Start of Year Message - The Field - Planning for this year Message-ID: <14A1751D-6EBF-4460-A0FA-B17CABC57942@TheSteinthals.com> RFC Dads - Yesterday schools started! Have you been by the school and have you seen the new field? You all helped tremendously for this field to be there. The RFC has been a constant driving voice for a field. We have raised funds that were used toward this field. The Foundation Board voted unanimously to approve the funding for the field. You all deserve praise for supporting the RFC and the Foundation! One note to remember - the field needs 6 weeks for the grass to take root. Please remind your children to respect the signs to stay off for 6 short weeks. On to this year... We have a problem guys... No one has stepped up to be interested in running the Carnival, and given my work I cannot commit to doing the work I did the last two years. So from where I sit, I see three options: A - 2 or 3 of you step up and work with me on the Carnival. We need to choose this option THIS WEEK so we have a shot to plan this properly. B - We blow off the Carnival, disappoint the kids, and do 2 steak dinners (one in the fall and one in the spring), and shoot to raise our $25k target in two dinners C - We blow off the Carnival, disappoint the kids, and do only the spring steak dinner and try very hard to raise the $25k target in one night. If you have a view, please send me your thoughts. If you want to step up and help run the Carnival and/or the Steak dinner, please let me know. In case you missed it, we are moving the events around, and are starting the beefsteak dinner planning this week! Dates Oct 23 - Beefsteak Dinner Mar 5 - Father Daughter Dance - grades 3-7 Apr 24 - Carnival Action I need from you! 1 - if you want to help with organizing the steak dinner, please drop me a note. I'm going to try to do this entire event without a meeting. I'll task people through e-mail, etc... We need to start acting now! 2 - if you can DONATE stuff to raffle off at the beefsteak, let me know. We need some stuff, good stuff, big stuff, small stuff. Tickets. Wine. Golf. Stuff. The more the merrier. I NEED TO KNOW THE RAFFLE PRIZES BY SEPT 30 SO WE CAN START ADVERTISING THE RAFFLE! So that means YOU need to DONATE NOW! 3 - you can start putting together your tables for the event and sending me your reservations. We are going to keep the basics the same as the dinner we had in the spring - $80 a person or $640 for a table for 8 with a bottle of wine. 4 - Why mess with a working formula? PM Amusements and Powell Catering are psyched to do this again. However, each of the last few years we've added something new... Two years ago we added the free throw contest (and I bet we all wont lose to a professional athlete this time!). Last year was a March Madness pool (which we clearly can't continue in Oct...). So if you have some ideas for something new and different, let me know. Carnival Update The Highland Park 5 are leading the group running the Carnival. I'll send the names of people who stepped up to say you'd help with the potential Oct Carnival to the boys and they'll contact you re: organizing the Carnival. Anyone else who wants to help, please drop me a note, and I'll forward it on. With 8 months vs. 8 weeks, the Carnival should rock!
